All Levels Yoga

All equipment necessary to perform classes are available at the studio for use at no charge.  We do recommend that you dress comfortably, bring some water or something to drink and possibly a towel.
The most important thing though… show up! 🙂

Yoga is about finding your balance.  Balance while holding postures, balance within the body systems and balance in your life.  These classes are paced for the students who are there at the time as opposed to a pre-determined workout.  Whether we sense a need for flow or just working on a few specific areas, every class will provide every student, young or old, new or experienced, with a sense of energy and peace.  Your body and mind will feel like you just had a massage and a hug.

Centering, breath work, postures and relaxation, this makes up the core of these classes.  Not simply exercise, we like to focus on pairing each breath with every body movement so that our practice is meditative in addition to strength training and flexibility.  If you are too busy to fit a class in your schedule or have a very stiff body – then you are exactly the person who needs yoga the most. 🙂

It is hard in just a few words to explain the yoga experience.  Just know that after an hour of yoga, no matter what your attitude when you arrive, you will be at peace with the world and happy when you finish. 

Aerial Yoga

This swath of suspended soft fabric supports your body in poses and allows your body to work against gravity, helping you get deeper into stretches. It also means you can do many supported inversions, which results in health benefits unique to aerial yoga. Being upside down, supported by the hammock, is a little bit like being in traction. It can help lengthen your ligaments, relax your muscles and decompress your spine.
All day long, your vertebrae sit stacked, being pulled down into each other by gravity. This is why flipping yourself upside down and allowing your spine to be free of that pressure can help you feel lengthened and relaxed, at least in the short term.
The positions you can achieve in aerial yoga also temporarily improve circulation, just like regular inversions in yoga asana on a mat can. This can bring you focus and improved energy following a class, and usually brings a huge smile to your face because of the big mood boost it can give you. Like any form of exercise, aerial yoga will boost your brain’s production of endorphins and dopamine.

Buti Yoga

What is Buti Yoga?
In Indian Marathi, “BUTI” (T pronounced like a D) literally means to cure something that is hidden pr kept secret beneath the surface. Buti Yoga will transform your BODY + SOUL (and booty) with cardio-intensive bursts of tribal dance, primal movement + conditioning woven into a dynamic yoga practice that is led intuitively by music. Expect deep beats to get you out of your head and into your body.

Hot Buti Yoga provided in the winter/colder months will include 8 Lights, two panels, 6 heaters in a heated room. The light & heat therapy will give you an internal massage allowing lubrication to your fasia tissues. This one of a kind magical experience where Yoga meets healing on another level is the only class in Northern Michigan. Show up for the healing, get going with the bass-led beats and leave on a blissful high.

Balancing of the energy centers guided meditation 

Balancing of the energy centers meditation (also known as chakras) is a great meditation practice to bring each center back into balance or homeostasis. Our energy centers govern different organs and systems within our bodies and have their own individual brains or consciousness to help the body function at its highest potential. When these centers are knocked out of balance due to stress or trauma, we are more likely to feel less energized, stressed, anxious, angry, and fearful. When we are in lowered emotional states, we are more likely to become ill and more stressed out. With this powerful meditation one by one we will put our loving awareness on each center blessing them with high elevations of our own divine loving attention, this will bring them back to their highest order and function. Creating more balance, wholeness, love, peace, freedom, and more energy within our minds and bodies! 

Ecstatic dance & tuning into your highest self meditation  

Every week our ritual dances will be themed around a new state of embodiment for example, our theme for our very first class will be freedom. Can we feel and sense what it is to be truly free? Free from stress, doubt, worry, fear, unworthiness, and scarcity! As one we will begin to set these intentions with our emotions and minds to be free from whatever it is you desire. Through the power of dance and movement we will begin invoking and embrace these new possibilities for our lives. To become this freedom with our eyes open, it is easy to feel and be Zen in meditation with eyes closed and all distractions cut off from us. The real goal is to practice it in our waking daily lives! Dancing meditations and walking meditations are designed for this very purpose! We will end our practice with a short, guided meditation to draw this new version of us to us with our radiant heart centers! 

Candlelight Yoga

a relaxing practice layered with slow movements, longer-held poses, calming breaths, and introspective guidance to tune inwards and assist the down-regulation of the body’s nervous system

Assisted/Supported Yoga –> Chair Yoga

In addition to a good stretch, participants will learn modified versions of twists, hip stretches, and other poses that will soothe aching joints and improve flexibility and range of motion. Students can safely learn many different kinds of adapted yoga postures, breathing techniques, and calming meditation in the comfort of and with the aid of a chair.

Chair yoga can help people manage the symptoms of many health issues including high blood pressure, anxiety, fatigue, arthritis, vertigo, osteoporosis, carpal tunnel syndrome, depression, chronic pain and stiffness and much more. The gentle movements encourage better circulation, while the weight- bearing standing poses help to safely build bone density. Chair yoga participants can also enjoy other fitness benefits, including improved muscle tone and strength, enhanced breathing habits, reduction of stress, better sleep, confidence, and a sense of overall well-being.

“Embrace the Shake” Barre

Barre is a low impact, low weights -high rep workout infusing elements from ballet, yoga, & Pilates. No dance experience required! 

Reset and Replenish

This is an accessible hatha yoga class for beginners and intermediate practitioners with variations offered. This type of yoga is based in the Integral Yoga lineage. With an emphasis on using your breath as you flow through the poses, this style of yoga is designed to help you bring your awareness inward and nurture your body, mind, and spirit. It is relaxing and restorative while at the same time, strengthening and increasing flexibility.

Gentlish Yoga

A gentle yoga practice with some challenges for those looking to step up their practice. Students can expect to see some Warrior I and Warrior II’s, Downward Facing Dog, and maybe even a Chaturanga or an Up Dog here and there. All postures are offered with options making this a very accessible class for everyone and every body.

Yoga on the Mat

This class is appropriate for those looking for a soft, nurturing, well supported, relaxing practice. Practiced primarily on the floor, this class is not only great for those new to the mat, but also beneficial to students looking for the therapeutic qualities yoga has to offer. Come breathe, stretch, and receive.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga is a gentle practice and is simply –> restorative. In this class we use props to support the asanas, which allow tight tissues to relax in a supportive way. The asanas are held longer and slower as the body gradually unwinds and restricted tissues begin to relax and melt into bliss. This class is for all levels and is based in yin yoga practices and is great for getting back in balance.

60 Minute Cardio & Core

Full body workout designed for maximum burn. Combining elevated heart rate cardio burst with functional body weight core exercise.

Slow & Accessible Flow + Yoga Nidra

This class is a slower and more accessible version of a vinyasa style class. This means the class will be broken down to fit YOUR body. Think slow, methodical movement combined with intentional use of props to make the physical aspect of yoga more comfortable and appropriate for your body. As we flow, the intention is for you to explore and become familiar with what feels good in your own body so that you can create, accommodate and sustain your own practice to fit your unique architecture as you grow and change. Slow & Accessible Flow + Yoga Nidra will include breathwork, movement, deep rest and sound healing with an emphasis on connection and restoration. As a sister to meditation, Yoga Nidra loosely translates to yogic sleep, and is a practice that for many people aids one to experience deep rest, radical healing and relaxation.

Tabata/Cardio Blast Workouts

Tabata training is one of the most popular forms of high-intensity interval training. It consists of four rounds of ultra-high-intensity exercises in a specific 20-seconds-on, 10-seconds-off interval. Five different areas are targeted… warm-up, arms, legs, core and finally a burn set. It might sound confusing, but it really isn’t. It is fun and never the same workout twice; so I guess it is a little confusing… to your muscles!!! The best part is you are done in 55 minutes. 🙂

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa flow is an upbeat, fun and creative class, with some yoga experience highly recommended. It is a yoga practice which links breath and continual movement through a sequence of postures. This practice combines flowing movement, static holds, inversions, and core strength building, guided by breath for a total mind-body workout. Enjoy the benefits of strengthening the body while calming and focusing the mind. There is no fixed sequence of postures, and creativity and playfulness are encouraged. Modifications for more challenging postures will be given, encouraging the practice of non-harm and self-compassion for each individual’s own practice.

Yin Yoga

A slow, mindful practice, aimed toward releasing tension and stress while providing relaxation. Yin focuses on postures that lengthen the muscles surrounding the hips, pelvis, and lower back.  This class is suitable for beginners and anyone with limitations, as well as experienced practitioners who enjoy variety in their practice. Yin is a perfect complement to dynamic yoga styles that focus on internal heat and building strength.
